Louise Slaughter was born in Harlan County, Kentucky and has lived most of her life in Rochester’s suburb of Fairport.  Slaughter has a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and a Master of Science degree in Public Health from the University of Kentucky. She then served on the Monroe County Legislature, and in New York State Assembly. She also served as regional coordinator to then-Secretary of State Mario Cuomo and to then-Lt. Gov. Mario Cuomo. Slaughter was first elected to Congress in 1986. She is married to Robert Slaughter and has three daughters and seven grandchildren.
