Mass. GOP tables vote on national party platform

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Massachusetts Republican Party leaders have delayed a decision on adopting the GOP's national platform, parts of which are opposed by some of its candidates in key state races.

A party spokesman says the Republican State Committee decided on a voice vote Thursday night to table consideration of the platform until late November, after the election.

The platform adopted at last month's Republican National Convention contains strong language opposing abortion and gay marriage. The state's delegation at the convention, which nominated former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for president, didn't oppose it.

Republican Richard Tisei, who's challenging Democratic Rep. John Tierney in the 6th Congressional District, had asked the state committee to reject it.

U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, challenged for re-election by Democrat Elizabeth Warren, had asked the national GOP to be more accepting of differing views on abortion.
