WASHINGTON D. C. — Senator Charles Schumer wants Greek yogurt on the menu in New York State schools and potentially schools all around the country.
Schumer has convinced the U.S. Department of Agriculture to begin a pilot program placing Greek yogurt in schools as early as April 2013.
The program should be a boon for the New York –based Greek yogurt industry which includes companies like Alpina and Muller Quaker which have facilities in Batavia.
Greek yogurt is known for a higher protein content than regular yogurt.
