ELLICOTTVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) — A State Assemblyman wants to make sure kids under the age of 14 are wearing a helmet when they hit the slopes.
Dennis Gabryszak is co-sponsoring a bill that would require children to wear protective head gear. The proposed measure is similar to bike helmet laws.
Holiday Valley Vice President of Operations Bonnie Koschir said, "Over the past 10 years or so there's been a huge increase in helmet use with children. Up to 85 percent of children nationally are already wearing helmets."
If the measure is passed, parents could be fined up to $50 if their children are not wearing helmets.
