(LIN) -- Turmoil in the Middle East leads to a regime change in Yemen and an ongoing battle between Egyptian leadership and reformers.
"Our demands are clear. We want the military council to step down and hand over authority to a national salvation government with full authority." -- Khaled El-Sayed, a protester from the Youth Revolution Coalition and a candidate in the Nov. 28 parliamentary election after Egypt's military ruler promised to speed up a presidential election to the first half of 2012.
"Despite our inability to bridge the committee's significant differences, we end this process united in our belief that the nation's fiscal crisis must be addressed and that we cannot leave it for the next generation to solve." -- The debt supercommittee panel's two co-chairs, Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., and Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Tex., in a somber statement after the panel conceded ignominious defeat in its quest to conquer a government debt that stands at a staggering $15 trillion.
"Don't be a Grinch. Don't vote to raise taxes on working Americans during the holidays." -- President Barack Obama challenging GOP lawmakers to stand by their anti-tax pledges and urging Congress to extend a Social Security payroll tax cut due to expire next month.
"Let's think about those who can't spend the holiday with their loved ones, especially the members of our military serving overseas. I'd like to thank all our men and women in uniform, and their families, for their incredible service and devotion."-- Obama, in a statement as he pardoned two turkeys in the annual presidential Thanksgiving turkey pardoning ceremony.
"It's going to be festive even though we're highly policed." -- Cari Machet, a volunteer with Occupy Wall Street’s public relations group. The group plans to have 5,000 Thanksgiving meals delivered to protesters at Zuccotti Park in New York City.
"We won't allow them to treat us like fools." -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s envoy to NATO, Dmitry Rogozin, after the U.S. continues to build the missile defense shield in Europe.
"This disagreement for the last 10 months has had a big impact on Yemen in the realms of culture, development, politics, which led to a threat to national unity and destroyed what has been built in past years.” -- Yemen’s President Ali Abdullah Saleh after agreeing to abandon his post. Saleh was in power for 33 years and faced calls for his resignation since the outbreak of the recent Arab Spring.
"We have a history of starting, as well as managing, historic demonstrations…We've done it well and we've managed it well, and that's not going to stop anytime soon… and that doesn't cease to exist after it hits a certain budget threshold." -- Boston City Councilor Michael Ross, after it was revealed the Occupy Boston demonstrations cost the city $575,000 in police overtime pay.
